Hi, my name is Amy and I am from Hernando, MS. This is my fifth semester pursuing my Ph.D. in Instructional Technology with a concentration in Design. Prior to enrolling in the doctoral program during the spring 2010 semester it had been ten years since I had been in school. However, after being in the program for over a year now it is amazing how quickly it is going, although I have not begun the dissertation phase! My undergraduate course work is in Business Education from Delta State University (1998), and my Masters is in Instructional Technology from Mississippi State University (2000).
My teaching career began in 1998, teaching Computer Discovery at Olive Branch Middle School and then in 2001, I transferred to Desoto County Career Technology Center in Southaven where I taught Computer Programming Technology I and II. In 2005, I accepted a position teaching computer and office administration courses at Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, MS and have been the director of the Business Division since 2007. I have been teaching online since 2001, and I believe the students I teach have really benefitted from me taking the courses in the ITD program. Now I am using screen casts and podcasts in my courses consistently where I wasn’t before. The communication aspect of my courses has been another area I am focusing on.
One of my favorite past times is traveling and looking for a good deal.
I am an avid coupon shopper and bargain hunter.
People closest to me refer to me as the “Coupon Queen” and I have also taught some courses in how to successfully stretch a dollar.
It is a fun past time and hobby for me.
This semester my goal is to continue to learn new innovative teaching practices where technology is concerned. My research interests are utilization of Web 2.0 in teaching and assessing computer literacy.
